Macshas Impex came into being in 1950, when a leading family of tea estate owners in Kandy choose to reach out directly to consumers worldwide with superior teas from their own estates and factories.
While initially focusing on bulk teas, the company gradually began moving over to the retail side of the business, marketing teas under the brand names of ‘Tea Monark’ and ‘Sulaiman Tea’, leading to an established presence in countries across Europe and the Middle East.
Over time, the current management of Macshas Impex, who are the third generation of the family in the tea business, realised the need to obtain teas from a wider variety of tea growing regions across Sri Lanka. Hence, they broadened their reach from their own estates and factories, to teas provided by the Sri Lankan Tea Board, which had a much wider offering from tea growing regions in different regions, as well as teas of varying types and flavours.

This decision proved to be particularly fortuitous, as the company’s brands were able to increase the scope of their offer to different markets, which had their own particular choice of flavours. This move also saw Macshas Impex increasing their line-up, which currently include bulk teas, as well as retail teas covering orthodox teas, flavoured teas and spiced teas in conventional packaging, tea bags and pyramid bags.
Macshas Impex is certified by the tea board of Sri Lanka, and is among the top 30 tea exporters from the country. The company owns a state-of-the-art tea blending, packing and labelling facility, while also engaging in private labelling services to third party customers. Moves are currently underway to set up tea centres in selected markets across Europe, as well as Dubai.
